BMJ Group Chooses SDL to Support Medical Translations for Univadis Online Platform

ID: 47388

(firmenpresse) - MAIDENHEAD, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 08/17/11 -- (LSE: SDL), the leading provider of Global Information Management solutions, announced today that it is working with BMJ Learning to translate medical education courses for the Univadis online platform. BMJ Learning is the innovative learning division of BMJ Group (British Medical Journal Group) and a leading provider of education, assessment, training and quality improvement services. In 2011, SDL will translate over 700 of BMJ Learning's online courses for doctors all over the world.

Initially the translation work encompassed only four European languages; in 2011 this has grown to also include Portuguese (Brazil), Mandarin, Korean and Japanese. SDL has provided effective translation solutions for the BMJ Learning courses, using translators with a background in medical sciences, and keeping an efficient tracking system through SDL translation memories to ensure both that language is consistent and that the project is cost effective in the long term. While the content is primarily text based, BMJ Learning's multimedia portfolio is growing, with many audio podcasts and video modules in the pipeline.

The online courses on BMJ Learning are based on clinical evidence and are continually updated to include the latest information. BMJ Learning also works in conjunction with the BMJ Group to provide users with a wide range of learning resources. BMJ Learning has a solid reputation for delivering reliable, accurate medical education, and maintaining the high quality of the content was always therefore paramount in the translation process.

"What began as a small project in only four languages has now grown significantly, and SDL's team of translators and account managers have helped us meet the challenge of keeping high standards across multiple languages," says Philippa Moore, Editorial Manager of BMJ Learning. "SDL has set up some very clearly defined processes which are repeated at each translation cycle, which is not only time efficient to help us meet our publication deadlines, but also helps us keep the consistency of language and style across the variety of languages we now have in our portfolio."

Moore goes on to say, "Overall, we are very pleased with both the quality of translation and the attentiveness and flexibility of our SDL account managers. Their service is exemplary, and we are delighted to work with the SDL team on our translation projects."

"SDL has always been dedicated to both meeting and surpassing client expectations", says Dominic Kinnon, joint CEO of the SDL Language Services division. Quality control is crucial when translating content, especially in the life science environment. With SDL as a partner, BMJ can be confident that its high quality requirements will be met."
