The site explains that the smart video technology found within the Smartbox allows energy savings of approximately 90% over existing commercial TV head end units. The creators say that what used to require an entire room to hold can now be housed within a single box, which can help contribute to space savings as well as energy savings. The Smartbox is distributed over Coax or IP Output, allowing the box to distribute video signal over traditional cable or through IP streaming.
Because of the way the box is designed, the Smartbox site says it can service a 20 unit hotel or a 4,000 unit resort, because it's scalable to the needs of any property. It only requires 300 watts of power for a standard 40 channel lineup, which helps to reduce the need for cooled equipment rooms. In addition to this, it delivers TV Audio & Video content in full HD - high definition QAM MPEG-4 or MPEG-2 Output.
The site goes on to underscore that the TV system for hotels and other properties can deliver encrypted content for digital MPAA compliance, and also offers 24/7 remote monitoring run from the DISH Network Operations Center. There are 96 channels available to configure, with the option for users to configure their own channels to ensure optimal guest enjoyment.
