Band saw with carbide saw tips from Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT obtains innovation award
Tool manufacturer QSGS Technology has received the Polish 'Gold Medal Award' for innovation for the recently developed Armoth Professional CTE band saw, featuring carbide saw tips from Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT. CERATIZIT recommended the carbide grade KCR10 for this joint project. The wear-resistant saw tips with various geometries can be brazed to the saw band, reground and easily replaced. This solution reduces maintenance costs while increasing the service life of the band saw.

(firmenpresse) - In collaboration with the Polish tool manufacturer QSGS Technology, CERATIZIT developed carbide saw tip geometries tailored to this wood-specific saw band. As part of this development process, QSGS itself introduced a new attachment method: "In the past the saw tips were welded to the carrier band," explains Jan Klepuszewski, managing director of QSGS Technology. "This, however, causes two difficulties. First, finishing and regrinding become very complex and costly. Second, a broken saw tip cannot be repaired anymore." Using the new method, the tips are now brazed instead. The advantage is that a damaged saw tip can be easily replaced or reground. Furthermore the selection of the carbide grades can be varied flexibly.
Increased service life
The high breakage and wear resistance of the carbide saw tips means that the band saw can be used for longer before it has to be sharpened again. In addition, the rolls no longer have to be readjusted during operation. "The innovative solution we developed together with CERATIZIT has allowed for an increase in the saw's service life by 500% on average," underlines Jan Klepuszewski from QSGS Technology.
The chrome-alloyed carbide grade with various geometries
The carbide grade chosen by Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT is KCR10: "Our chrome-alloyed fine grain grade KCR10 is ideal for a wide field of applications with all wood types and offers an optimum balance between hardness, corrosion resistance and transverse rupture strength to ensure the best possible performance including process security," explains Michael Magin, development manager at Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT KCR10.
'Gold Medal Award' for product innovation
The saw band is the first joint project in the three years of cooperation between the two companies. "In the fields of development and production we work only with premium partners and use exclusively high-quality materials," explains Jan Klepuszewski from QSGS. "With Toolmaker Solutions by CERATIZIT we have found a partner who always acts in a creative and solution-oriented way and is able to deliver products with maximum quality." Confirmation of the successful cooperation is the 'Gold Medal Award' the band saw received at DREMA 2015 in Poznan. It was nominated as one of the twelve most innovative products at the international exhibition for machines and tools for the wood and furniture industry.
