Keeping any plant with equipment or plant maintenance is the single most significant thing behind safety in the workplace that there is. There are numerous philosophies in regards to keeping a plant of the equipment and any kind which allows it to work. The alternative that the plant manager must make is which doctrine makes the most sense for their plant. The decision should be based on what type of industry the plant is involved in and the type of time the plant must dedicate to keeping their equipment. Plants that are associated with an industry that runs year around will not have an offseason interval to perform preventative maintenance as do plants that have a special season and therefore a slow or offseason to perform said maintenance that is preventative.
For plants that do have an offseason, the reasonable alternative for a plant manager to pick would be a preventative maintenance program. Under this plan equipment will be checked by trained staff occasionally looking to the equipment exterior for a sudden increase in temperature or excessive vibrations. The plant operations should run smooth as silk, or even kept running, could spell disaster for the plant, largely the plant's bottom line and ultimately its personnel if kept running correctly. So plant managers, understand your industry, know your equipment and by all means, keep that equipment running following it and by selecting a care plan.
