New Search and Rescue Lifeboats on the Way

Construction has begun on six new Search and Rescue (SAR) lifeboats at Hike Metal Products in Wheatley, Ontario, creating more than 20 high-paying jobs during the course of the contract. The new lifeboats will be stationed across Canada providing key SAR services for Canadian families and business including searches on the water, marine distress response calls as well as assistance to disabled vessels.

The announcement was made by the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.

Hike Metal Products won a $43.4 million contract in July 2015 to build six vessels. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for summer 2017.
