Beating Anxiety & Depression in Perth

It’s Women’s Health Week 5th - 9th September 2016 and Perth Brain Centre is hosting information evenings about how women can escape from anxiety and depression – the two most common mental health conditions affecting women.

(firmenpresse) - Perth, WA, Australia - The figures are shocking; one in three Australian women will experience anxiety and one in five will experience depression (https://www.beyondblue.org.au) . While everyone feels anxious or down from time to time, for many this anxiety and depression can become a prison.A common story is that of Megan (https://www.beyondblue.org.au/transcripts/video-transcript?id=f13b34aa-f371-61bc-846e-ff0000e9d3fc) . As a child Megan felt extremely shy and was anxious about things at school. She experienced her first major anxiety attack around the age of 18. She described it as feeling like she was having a heart attack and couldn’t breathe.

The practitioners at The Perth Brain Centre, which includes psychologists and other experts in brain-based therapies, see many people like Megan. Daniel Lane, Clinical Director at The Centre, said that stories like Megan’s are all too common. “It’s tragic that women’s lives are effectively being put on hold by anxiety and depression when there are effective treatments available” he commented.

Once such therapy, Trans-Cranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), is a ground- breaking approach which uses a gentle electrical current to stimulate a specific area of the brain to reduce depression. At The Perth Brain Centre they combine tDCS with other traditional approaches like counselling with qualified psychologists.

To help women understand the treatment options available to them, and to give them some simple strategies to help themselves, The Perth Brain Centre is holding open evenings on Wednesday 21st September between 7-8pm at their clinic in Currambine, and Thursday 22nd September between 7-8pm at their clinic in Attadale. Places are limited so enquire through the contact page on The Perth Brain Centre’s website or call (08) 6500 3277 now to reserve your place.
