Outokumpu to end remaining temporary layoffs in Tornio
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - PRESS RELEASEAugust 24, 2009 at 10.30 amOutokumpu's Tornio plant will end the currently on-going part-timetemporary layoffs for about 900 maintenance and support functionsemployees from the end of September. This reflects the earlierannounced increase in production capability and the end of temporarylayoffs for employees at steel production lines. From early Octoberthere will be no temporarily laid off employees in Tornio Works inFinland.Outokumpu announced in late June that it will increase its productioncapability as the order intake for deliveries after the summervacation period was showing some recovery. The currently idledmelt-shop will start production and working shifts at the steelproduction lines will be increased at the beginning of Septemberwhich is one month earlier than planned. The end of the temporarylayoffs for about 700 steel production employees at the beginning ofSeptember was also announced in June. The plan is, however, not toreturn to full production capacity at this stage.To reflect the increasing production capability also the part-timetemporary layoffs for 900 maintenance and support functions employeescan be ended from the end of September. These temporary layoffs werein force until further notice and their need was agreed to bereviewed quarterly.
