(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 11/07/16 -- Media are invited to a photo op as the Canadian Museum of Nature is graced by a Royal Couple on Monday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m., with a visit from Norway's Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The couple will preside over the opening of a special photo exhibition and symposium about the Arctic, which is coordinated by Laval University, ArcticNet and the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

, when they will also travel to Toronto and St. John's. Their visit will reinforce the bilateral connections between Canada and Norway, highlight common interests in the Arctic and promote business collaboration. The young and dynamic Royal Couple have a keen interest in the Arctic and sustainability of the North.

The temporary special exhibit, On Thin Ice, is about the "Lance", a Norwegian research vessel that entrapped itself in sea ice for a year to study how ice forms and changes, all to better understand the impact of climate change. The Royal couple actually visited the ship in action on the ice during its mission. The Symposium, from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. features two panel presentations about Canadian and Norwegian research in the Arctic.

The Canadian Museum of Nature is Canada's national museum of natural history and natural sciences. The museum provides evidence-based insights, inspiring experiences and meaningful engagement with nature's past, present and future. It achieves this through scientific research, a 10.5 million specimen collection, education programs, signature and travelling exhibitions, and a dynamic web site, nature.ca. The museum's Centre for Arctic Knowledge and Exploration provides leadership for understanding Arctic ecosystems. In June 2017, in recognition of Canada's 150th anniversary the museum will open the Canada Goose Arctic Gallery.
