CERN Selects Web of Knowledge from Thomson Reuters
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, February 4, 2011 - Thomson Reuters announced today
that theEuropean Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has selected Web of
Knowledge(SM). CERN, one of the world's largest and most respected centers for
scientific research, is home to the Large Hadron Collider, the world's largest
and highest-energy particle accelerator.
Following a competitive bidding process, CERN selected Web of Knowledge complete
with Web of Science(SM), Journal Citation Reports(®) and Conference Proceedings
Citation Index(SM). CERN will use the Web of Knowledge solution to facilitate
the discovery and retrieval of literature outside of its core field of high
energy physics.
Web of Knowledge will provide CERN with access to the world's leading research
citation databases, which include more than 12,000 of the most influential
journals worldwide and research dating back to 1900. The databases will be the
main point of access to scientific literature for engineers involved with
constructing and maintaining the experimental equipment used at the laboratory.
"We're thrilled to be supporting a world renowned institution such as CERN with
our citation information and tools," said Keith MacGregor, Executive Vice
President at Thomson Reuters. "We believe our superior content and editorial
processes made Thomson Reuters the must-have partner for CERN."
"For particle physics, our core business, we already have first-class,
community-operated databases, but we needed also robust and comprehensive data
for our colleagues working on technical aspects related to the experiments,"
added Jens Vigen, Chief Scientific Information Officer at CERN. "Web of
Knowledge fulfilled this brief and will enable us to offer a complete service to
all of our users."

About CERN
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world's
largest and most respected centres for scientific research. Its business is
fundamental physics, finding out what the Universe is made of and how it works.
At CERN, the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments are used to
study the basic constituents of matter - the fundamental particles. By studying
what happens when these particles collide, physicists learn about the laws of
Nature.
Founded in 1954, the CERN Laboratory sits astride the Franco-Swiss border near
Geneva. It was one of Europe's first joint ventures and now has 20 Member
States.
