Imtech wins orders for sustainable technology 2012 Olympic Games,
including Olympic Stadium
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Gouda - Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) announces thatit has won the order for the sustainable climate technology in thenew stadium that is to be built for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.Imtech has also been given the assignment for the sustainabletechnology for a new shopping centre, which will form the heart ofStratford City, a completely new district being developed in EastLondon that will be integrated into the Olympic Park. The total valueof the orders amounts to around 35 million euro. The orderscompensate for the slow down experienced in the London propertysector due to the economic recession.'Olympic Stadium 2012: a new ecological standardPreparations for the 2012 Olympic Games in London are in full swing.The ambition of the responsible Olympic Delivery Authority is torealise the most sustainable Games ever. A sustainable Olympic Parkis being created in East London with the new Olympic Stadium as itscentral point, which will also host the opening and closingceremonies. With this new stadium, a new ecological standard will beset for future Olympic Games. The stadium has capacity for 80,000seats, of which 25,000 are permanent seats and 55,000 seats are in atemporary construction. After the end of the Games the stadium willbe reduced in capacity and the temporary seats will be removed andreused. There are plans to subsequently integrate the Olympic stadiumsustainably into the largest urban park that has been created inEurope in the last 150 years. Sustainability is the basis for thestadium architects, Peter Cook and HOK Sport. Imtech will provide thesustainable climate technology, which is not only extremely energyefficient, but also emits very little CO2. As part of theenvironment-friendly supply chain approach, Imtech will partly beusing solutions prefabricated in North London, which will then betransported via the City Mill river to the building location. Thiswill reduce the emission of environmentally harmful fine particles toa minimum.Stratford City: sustainable gateway to the 2012 Olympic GamesNext door to the Olympic Park and under contract from the Australiandeveloper Westfield, the new 1.3 million m2 Stratford City will berealised; the sustainable gateway to the 2012 Olympic Games. Theheart of this new development will be formed by the new 150,000 m2shopping centre Westfield Stratford City, with around 300 local,national and international shops in lifestyle, fashion and interiorsin combination with countless facilities for restaurants andentertainment. Top class department stores such as John Lewis, Marks& Spencer and Waitrose will be opening large branches here. Imtech isresponsible for the sustainable climate technology in the shoppingcentre, including energy saving technical solutions and an ecologicalapproach on the basis of modular prefabrication. This approach willresult in considerable reduction in the carbon footprint during therealisation phase.Experience countsThe orders awarded to Imtech are partly due to their extensiveknowledge of high-tech solutions in the areas of energy andenvironment.
