Pöyry awarded EUR 1.2 million assignment for feasibility study for brackish water desalination in Tunisia

Pöyry's Water & Environment business group has been awarded an engineering
services contract by the Tunisian National Water Distribution Utility (SONEDE,
Société Nationale d'Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux) for the
feasibility study for eight brackish water desalination plants in the Southern
Region of Tunisia.
The study has as objective to prepare the 2nd phase of the National Water
Quality Improvement Program promoted by SONEDE and co-financed by KfW
Entwicklungsbank within the framework of the German-Tunisian cooperation. The
objective of the program is to improve the quality of the water distributed in
southern Tunisia.
The value of the assignment is about EUR 1.2 million.
Pöyry's services cover the the evaluation of the actual situation (resources,
institutional, technical, etc.), the technical and economical comparison of
alternatives and the identification of the most responsive solutions.
The project also includes the evaluation of alternatives for powering the plants
using renewable sources (solar, wind, cogeneration) and the analysis of the
conditions for the project's qualification for "Clean Development Mechanism".
Furthermore, Pöyry will carry out an environmental impact assessment including
climate change impact investigations.
