Better Hearing and Speech Month, pioneered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, is a monthlong campaign that focuses on raising awareness about communication disorders and the role of those in our positions to provide life-changing treatment.
(firmenpresse) - Quincy, MA - “Better Hearing and Speech Month, pioneered by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, is a month long campaign that focuses on raising awareness about communication disorders and the role of those in our positions to provide life-changing treatment,” said Dr. Janice Powis, Au.D. owner of Quincy Hearing. “This time is an opportunity to help normalize hearing loss and hearing protection. Hearing health is a big part of your overall health, which is not necessarily common knowledge.”
Hearing Health and Your Total-Body Health
According to the National Council on Aging, untreated hearing loss has been linked to increased susceptibility to numerous other health complications, such as arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, depression, and anxiety.
“Our bodies require clean fuel and nutrients to run properly,” continued Dr. Powis, who has been serving the hearing health care needs of the Metro Boston community for more 7 years. “Knowing your body’s relationship with hearing can help you stay mindful of your overall well-being and help create a path for healthier living. Our goal is to discover the nature of a person’s hearing difficulty and create personalized solutions for them.”
How Hearing Technology Can Help Those With Hearing Difficulties
According to a study conducted by Michigan State University, an estimated 28 million people in the United States experience some type of treatable hearing loss, yet less than a quarter of those people use hearing device technology to enhance their hearing.
“I would recommend people get their hearing checked on an annual basis to ensure they’re always hearing their best,” said Dr. Powis. “We get regular eye and dental exams — why should our hearing be treated any differently?”

- Muffled speech sounds
- Difficulty hearing on the telephone
- Difficulty hearing people speak in a crowd
- Trouble understanding the voices of women or children
