Londoners quickest in country to get back into dating after a break-up
It’s “work hard, play hard” as capital daters put career first

London, 30 May 2017: Londoners are the first back into the dating scene after a break-up and the least likely to recommend that newly single friends “take their time” before returning to dating. This is according to the latest research commissioned by premium online dating platform EliteSingles*.
One in ten Londoners (10%) want to be dating within a week of the end of long-term relationship, compared to the UK national average of 6.5%, and more than a quarter (26.5%) will return to dating within a month, compared to the national average of 21%.
When asked what single piece of advice they would give to people after a break-up, Londoners were the least likely in the UK to counsel, “take your time” (32% compared to 40.5% nationwide). They are almost twice as likely to recommend that newly single friends should be “completely comfortable and look their best” (21.5%) after a break-up than the national average (13%). They are also the most comfortable moving in for a kiss on the first date.
When it comes to money, Londoners aren’t shy either. They’re the happiest in the country if their date offers to pay for the first date (24.5% compared to the national average of 17.5%) and nearly a third (31%) will reveal their salary within a month of dating someone, way above the national average of 24%.
But a third of Londoners (34%) say they prioritise their career over dating, compared to 27% of Britons. They’re also the least likely to skip an out-of-hours work social to meet a date and more than twice as likely to find being “successful” an attractive trait (13%) than the national average (6%).
Salama Marine, in-house relationship psychologist at EliteSingles, commented on the findings: “London attracts go-getters from all over the world and it’s very much a case of work hard, play hard. It’s perhaps no surprise then that they are the most assertive in the UK when it comes to dating but it’s clear that their career comes first and when it comes to dating they know what they want and really go for it.”
