Heijmans exclusively uses sustainable timber in building projects, even when not mandated

Heijmans has decided to limit the use of timber in all new projects exclusively
to sustainable timber. This decision also applies to projects where this is not
a prescribed requirement. The additional costs for this are absorbed by
Heijmans. The timber used is FSC or PEFC (MTCC excluded) certified. This way,
Heijmans confirms its leading role in the sector to encourage the use of
sustainable materials and promote quality.
Sustainably produced timber originates from forests that are managed such that
the ecological function of the forest as the living environment of plants and
animals is maintained. The exclusive use of sustainable timber in the
construction industry makes a significant contribution to the environment.
As one of the initiators of a range of programmes, such as the Smart Energy
Collective and the WNF Climate Thesis Award, Heijmans has been working for years
on the realization of this objective. Projects such as the In Goede Aarde
energy-neutral residential development project in Boxtel, the realization of
electric charging posts for the City of Amsterdam and the development of low-
temperature asphalt in collaboration with Shell, illustrate the leading role
that Heijmans plays in this domain. Heijmans recently published its 2010
Sustainability Report, this will soon be downloaded in english from Heijmans'
website.
