Jetting off to Bruges? Not before you check out Patrick Chong’s expert advice on historic highlights and single trip travel insurance!

(firmenpresse) - So, you’ve decided on a holiday in Bruges? Great choice. Known as the Venice of the North, this Belgian metropolis is not only celebrated for its dreamy streets, intricate architecture and glistening waters, but also for its status as a noteworthy cultural hub. Let’s take a look at what historical highlights this fascinating World Heritage Site has in store.

Basilica of the Holy Blood (Heilig-Bloedbasiliek)

Goeiemorgen! When you’re ready to take on your first morning in Bruges, I recommend starting your cultural excursion at the city’s renowned basilica. In addition to its jaw-droppingly beautiful decoration, you’ll be stunned by the church’s relic of Christ’s blood, which allegedly appeared in Bruges after the Crusades in the twelfth century. Today it’s kept in the basilica’s elaborately decorated chapel, which is truly awe-inspiring.

The Markt

After taking in the splendour of the basilica, why not take a leisurely stroll around the Old Town’s centre? Here you’ll be able to marvel at an extensive market place, historic homes, and – most importantly – the city’s infamous octagonal belfry. If you’re up for a little exercise you can also ascend to the top of the tower via its 366 steps, but be warned: the claustrophobic interior and the steep climb are not for the faint-hearted... definitely make sure that you have single trip travel insurance if you’re brave enough to attempt the trek!

Town Hall (Stadhuis)

Next up is the Gothic Town Hall, which dates back to the fourteenth/fifteenth century. You’ll understand why this edifice is world-famous when you see it: its charming columns, marvellous turrets and stunning statues create a sight that you’ll cherish forever. Prepare to be blown away by the beauty of the hall’s interior, too. By taking a look at its nineteenth-century murals, you’ll even be able to learn about the city’s longstanding history. Two birds, one stone.

Groeninge Museum

If you’re an art enthusiast, you’ve come to the right place: Bruges is notorious for its remarkable Groeninge Museum, which is flooded with thousands of eager tourists each year. Plan to spend an afternoon exploring the gallery’s impressive collection of Flemish primitives and Renaissance paintings, including fifteenth-century works by the eminent artist Jan Van Eyck.

Memling Museum

Can’t get enough of the city’s art scene? You’re in luck: Bruges has not one, but two notable art museums. In the Memling Museum, be prepared to gasp in amazement when you see Hans Memling’s fifteenth-century paintings, many of which are widely known and celebrated masterpieces. If you’re ready to be wowed by the brilliance that is Flemish art, aesthetic magnificence is right at your fingertips in this gallery.

Since Bruges is so close to home, you probably think that travel insurance isn’t crucial, right? Think again! If you’re injured, ill or otherwise impaired, you’ll thank your lucky stars for taking the necessary precautions before your holiday. With our economical single trip insurance policy, we at InsureMore are here to ease your mind as you set off for your historical quest to Belgium. To learn more, don’t hesitate to contact us today!
