Drilling commences at Dos Calandrias Argentina
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Mariana Resources LimitedAIM and PLUS code: MARL7 September 2009First Pass Drill Program Commences at Dos Calandrias Project, SantaCruz Province.Highlights* Diamond drilling has commenced at Mariana's 100% owned Dos Calandrias epithermal gold/silver (previously known as Tongoril) project, in the Deseado Massif of Southern Argentina.* 1500m of drilling to test three separate vein/vein breccias targets at Calandria Norte and three broad silicified breccias zones at Calandria Sur.* Latest trenching returned encouraging assay results:ÿ 17.5m (at) 1.9 g/t Au and 56.3 g/t Ag incl. 1.5 m (at) 11.2 g/t Au and510 g/t Agÿ 2.7m (at) 5.4 g/t Au incl. 0.7m (at) 20.2 g/t Au 25.4 g/t Ag(Calandria Norte)ÿ 7m (at) 1.1 g/t Au incl. 0.8 m (at) 3.5 g/t AuDiagram of Dos Calandrias trenching program available atwww.marianaresources.comCalandria Norte and Calandria Sur ProspectsThe drilling is designed to test six separate target zones which arepossible depth extensions of strong surface indications of gold andsilver mineralization discovered during Mariana's 2008/2009exploration programme. Recent limited trench sampling from 21excavations has confirmed prospectivity of the property with thediscovery of several zones of strongly anomalous gold and silver (seetrenching results below).Six holes are planned at Calandria Norte to test mineralisedchalcedonic veins and vein breccias initially at 30m to 50m belowsurface. An additional two or three deeper holes targeting between80m and 120m below surface may follow. At Calandria Sur, trenching has confirmed that wide zones of gold andsilver mineralization, generally in the range of 1-2 g/t are hostedin the brecciated rhyolite bodies. These targets will be tested atdepths of 40m and 80m below surface at four sites, ideally with twoor three holes per section.A Boyles 37A diamond drill rig has been contracted from BoartLongyear. The drill rig is currently onsite and drilling ahead. It isanticipated that the first batch of assay results may be reported inthe first half of October.BackgroundDos Calandrias is located within Mariana's Tongoril tenement in thecentral part of the Deseado Massif of Santa Cruz Province. Itfeatures a rhyolite lava dome complex with dome-margin breccias andunderlying pyroclastic rocks. Gold and silver vein typemineralization related to NW and NE regional structures and assayingup to 21.7 g/t Au and 62 g/t Ag was identified last year duringreconnaissance. Follow up of lag sampling anomalies discovered NW andSE trending breccia zones in float and sub-outcrop in thesouthernmost part of the property with high gold and silver values inrock chips. The drill targets have been selected from a compilationof results from surface rock chip sampling and diamond saw channelsampling of trenches. The mineralization is hosted by veins and breccias, which indome-hosted systems elsewhere, can offer additional potential forbulk-tonnage targets. The outcropping chalcedonic veins with elevatedlevels of mercury, arsenic and antimony indicate the system has notbeen eroded and the target mineralisation may be preserved at depth.Earlier this year, consultant epithermal gold specialist Dr. RichardSillitoe following a field visit, assigned Tongoril a "highexploration priority" and recommended trenching and follow updrilling. Dos Calandrias (Tongoril) is one of 10 epithermal goldprojects controlled by the company within a 160,000 Ha land packagebased on regional work undertaken by the Mariana team.Trenching ResultsTrench ID Length (m) Au g/t Ag g/t TargetTPt01 2.7 (at) 5.35 7.7 CalandriaInc 0.7 (at) 20.20 25.4 CalandriaTPt03 5.9 (at) 0.52 1.6 CalandriaInc 0.7 (at) 2.42 3.3 CalandriaTCs01 10.5 (at) 0.20 4.3 Brecha DeseadaTCs02 10.0 (at) 0.50 4.1 Brecha DeseadaInc 2.0 (at) 1.05 2.5 Brecha DeseadaTCs03 4.0 (at) 0.44 10.7 Brecha DeseadaTCs04 2.5 (at) 0.73 3.3 La PicasaTCs05 12.0 (at) 0.21 3.0 El AbraTCs06 1.5 (at) 0.43 7.6 La HerraduraTCn07 3.4 (at) 0.61 5.7 CalandriaInc 0.5 (at) 2.60 1.8 CalandriaTCn08 5.3 (at) 0.65 6.3 CalandriaInc 0.7 (at) 2.30 0.7 CalandriaTCn09 7.0 (at) 1.10 3.0 La MoraInc 0.8 (at) 3.48 6.7 La MoraTCn10 1.6 (at) 0.24 0.7 TongorilTCn11 2.6 (at) 0.36 2.1 CalandriaInc 0.5 (at) 1.40 9.0 CalandriaTCs12 17.7 (at) 0.24 2.8 Brecha DeseadaInc 1.1 (at) 2.93 4.9 Brecha DeseadaTCs13 17.5 (at) 1.92 56.3 Brecha DeseadaInc 1.5 (at) 11.20 510.0 Brecha DeseadaTCs15 3.5 (at) 0.19 2.5 La HerraduraTCs16 0.5 (at) 4.32 42.4 La HerraduraTCn17 1.5 (at) 1.30 2.3 CalandriaTCn17 5.5 (at) 0.17 1.1 CalandriaTCn18 1.0 (at) 0.13 0.2 Veta TapadaTCn14,19,20,21 No significant valuesCommenting today, Managing Director of Mariana Resources Ltd, JohnSutcliffe said"We are pleased to announce the start of drilling at the DosCalandrias Project in the prolific Deseado Massif gold/silverprovince of Southern Argentina. We consider there is excellentpotential for both the breccia-hosted bulk tonnage and vein-hosteddeposits in what could be a non-eroded epithermal system and we lookforward to testing the six targets."ON BEHALF OF THE BOARDJohn SutcliffeManaging DirectorFor more information: RFC Corporate FinanceMariana Resources Limited Limited (Nomad) +61 2 9437 +61 2John Horsburgh (Chairman) 4588 Rob Adamson 9250 0041 +59 3 +61 2John Sutcliffe (MD) 99808080 Will Souter 9250 0050FinnCap (Broker)Joe Lunn (Analyst) +44 20 76001658Matthew Robinson +44 20 76001658Or visit website at www.marianaresources.comADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThe exploration programme is being directed by the ArgentinaExploration Manager, Dr Gustavo Rodriguez under supervision ofManaging Director Mr John Sutcliffe.
