Largest REC Installation of 28MW Announced in Germany
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Sandvika, June 21, 2011: Today, Solar-Konzept began constructing one of the
largest solar parks in Bavaria, Germany using REC modules. A total of 120,000
solar modules are included in the project. By the end of 2011, the solar park,
which covers approximately 40 hectares, will produce 28 MWp and provide
sufficient green energy for up to 32,000 inhabitants. This will save about
18,200 tons of CO2 per year.
"We are very pleased to realize this groundbreaking project together with REC.
REC meet our requirements for quality and high performance with their modules,
in addition to providing great logistical support. REC is a very reliable
partner," says Christoph Schmitt, Managing Director Solar-Konzept. REC has
developed several other projects with Solar-Konzept.
John Andersen, Jr., Group COO and Executive Vice President Wafers, Cells &
Modules stated, "REC is proud to be the supplier selected by Solar-Konzept for
this hallmark project in the important German market. This is the largest solar
project using REC modules to date."
The 50 million euro project was developed thanks to the combined efforts of
several local partners. The grounds for the solar park, formerly a NATO airport,
are leased for a period of twenty years by the Federal Office for Real Estate.
Permission for the construction was granted by the district council as the
community supported the idea of using the area for a solar project from the
start. "For us, the transition to green energy begins today! We consider solar
the energy of the future. We are excited about the innovative use of this former
military base and support the project," stated Helmut Krämer, Mayor of the Markt
Giebelstadt community where there project is located. The runways of the former
NATO airport are still used for civil aviation.
