(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Philadelphia, PA, London, UK, June 24, 2011 - Thomson Reuters today announced
the National Research Foundation (NRF), an independent government agency
supporting research in South Africa, has selected InCites(TM) to analyze
institutional productivity and benchmark its research output versus peers
worldwide.
InCites, a citation-based research evaluation tool on the Web, enables academic
and government administrators to gain a greater understanding of their
institution's research activity and output, and make more informed strategic
decisions based on customized data sets. Backed by citation data from Web of
Science(TM), InCites captures essential metrics such as total papers, citation
impact and collaboration indicators, combining them with powerful tools and
reporting mechanisms.
Keith MacGregor, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters, said: "With more
than 30 years of file history, InCites is one of the most comprehensive
solutions to aid in scholarly performance measurement and decision-making
available today. In addition to the valuable data captured within InCites, the
NRF South Africa has gained access to a host of analysis tools that it can rely
on to help fulfill its strategic priorities."
The NRF will use InCites to monitor research impact, pinpoint influential
researchers and emerging trends, set measurable goals and plan its research
strategy. The NRF will also use the Global Comparisons module of InCites to
enhance its global benchmarking and comparison capabilities.
Albert van Jaarsveld, president and CEO of the National Research Foundation,
said: "The National Research Foundation of South Africa is delighted to be a
subscriber to InCites. The national datasets provide an opportunity to analyze
and visualize South African research output, standing and impact. Being able to
monitor the research trends in South Africa will assist the NRF in its efforts
to strategically support and promote research in South Africa."
