New Mommy Media produces audio podcasts for new and expecting parents. The San Diego based company explain that they aim to provide tips and advice for new parents as well as educating and entertaining them on their journey through parenthood. Their shows are available at all times so they fit in with the busy schedules of parents everywhere.
One of the podcasts that New Mommy Media produces is The Boob Group. The Boob Group's podcast is aimed at supporting parents who are passionate about breastfeeding their babies. Every episode is based around a group of moms' discussing their experiences, struggles and how society reacts. The site explains that the show provides honest, natural and judgement free information on breastfeeding.
The report and podcast are concerned with breastfeeding and alcohol. They discuss wether is is safe to consume alcohol when breastfeeding and if a mother does indeed consume alcohol should they then 'pump and dump'? The podcast features a discussion between Sunny Gault, who runs New Mommy Media, Dr James Murphy, a San Diego pediatrician, and Leilani Wilde. Leilani is the host of the podcast episode.
The podcast discussion explains that there is much conflicting advice over the consumption of alcohol when breast feeding which could confuse new mothers. Dr Murphy states that there is no definitive answer to the question as it depends on many differing factors, such as how much is consumed, when it is consumed and when the baby is fed in relevance to the previous two factors.
The report's advice is that nursing mothers should not consume more than 8oz of wine, two beers, or the equivalent of one drink of hard alcohol. Mothers should also wait on average two hours after alcohol consumption before attempting to breastfeed. Expressing and throwing away breast milk tends to not work as the alcohol still remains in the mother's blood circulation.
