Ahold nominates Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh to the Corporate

(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Ahold today announced its nomination ofLodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh to the Corporate Executive Board asChief Corporate Governance Counsel. He succeeds Peter Wakkie, whosedecision to retire from Ahold was announced in June. Hijmans van denBergh will join the company on December 1, 2009, and assume hisresponsibilities as acting member of the Corporate Executive Boardand Chief Corporate Governance Counsel from that date.Hijmans van den Bergh will be responsible for Ahold's legal,corporate governance and compliance functions. He will also head upmergers and acquisitions as well as corporate responsibility.Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh (1963), a Dutch national, is currentlypartner and member of the managing committee of Amsterdam-based lawfirm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, where he leads the corporatepractice. Hijmans van den Bergh specializes in corporate andsecurities law, with a particular emphasis on corporate finance andmergers and acquisitions. He joined De Brauw in 1988, and was thefirm's resident partner in its London office from 1994 until 1998.Chairman of the Supervisory Board Rene Dahan said: "The role of ChiefCorporate Governance Counsel continues to be of vital importance toAhold.
