Kesko's sales grew in comparable terms in September
Kesko Group's sales totalled ?904.1 million in September 2017, an increase of
0.6% in comparable terms. Reported total sales decreased by 6.4%.
"Kesko's sales grew in comparable terms in September thanks to good sales
development in the grocery trade. Sales in the grocery trade and the building
and technical trade were weakened by one less delivery day than the year
before," says Kesko's President and CEO Mikko Helander.
Sales in the grocery trade totalled ?441.9 million in September, an increase of
2.9% in comparable terms. Comparable sales grew in all K-food retail chains. The
reported sales for September decreased by 3.1%, due to network changes in the
former Suomen Lähikauppa chain and the divestment of the grocery trade business
in Russia the previous year.
Sales in the building and technical trade totalled ?387.8 million in September,
a decrease of 1.0% in comparable terms in local currencies. Comparable sales in
Finland grew by 1.0% and decreased abroad by 2.7%. Sales in the building and
technical trade excluding the speciality goods trade increased by 0.4% in local
currencies. Sales in the speciality goods' leisure trade decreased by 2.9% in
Finland and sales in the machinery trade decreased by 26.9%. The reported sales
in the building and technical trade decreased by 11.3% and were impacted by the
number of delivery days as well as the divestment of the K-maatalous business
and the furniture trade in the second quarter.
Car trade sales in September totalled ?74.3 million, representing a decrease of
3.9% in comparable terms. The reported sales grew by 0.5% including the
acquisition of AutoCarrera.

Change, % indicates the change when compared to the corresponding period of the
previous year. The comparable change % has been calculated for the grocery trade
by including those stores formerly belonging to Suomen Lähikauppa, and which
have belonged to the network in both years, in the sales. The comparable change
% in the building and technical trade as well as the car trade has been
calculated in local currencies and excluding the impact of acquisitions and
divestments.
In September 2017, the number of Kesko's wholesale selling days in Finland was
21, which is one less day than the year before. In July - September, there were
65 selling days, which is one less day than the year before. In January -
September 2017, there was one less wholesale selling day in Finland compared to
the year before.
