VinaPhone partners with Secucloud to provide secure mobile internet in Vietnam

Hamburg, Germany. 13 December 2017 - The growth of smartphone usage in the Asia-Pacific region is unstoppable. Between 2013 and 2015 alone, the number of users in Vietnam, Indonesia, India and the Philippines has increased more than fivefold. Yet the corresponding security awareness among users has not kept pace with this fast-paced development. As a result, the area has become a veritable paradise for mobile malware – and fighting against this increased level of threat demands a fresh approach to security. This is why the Vietnamese telecoms provider VinaPhone has signed a partnership with the German security specialist Secucloud and plans to launch a new security service for its more than nine million smartphone customers early next year. The service will comprise multiple high-performance security functions in the cloud, protecting users from cyber-threats on the mobile internet with no need for any local software installation or maintenance.
“Mobile internet usage in Vietnam is mainly a phenomenon of the younger generation, as half of all mobile internet users are less than twenty years old,” explains Tuan Nguyen, CEO at VKAS, a partner of VinaPhone. “However, this group of users doesn’t always make security a big priority. Most of our young customers aren’t willing to pay a lot for security solutions or bother with continually downloading updates. The problem is that today’s security situation means that many of these users are exposed to an increasing number of risks. We want to protect Vietnamese customers effectively, which is why we had been looking for a system for some time that, once activated, would provide reliable and practically invisible protection while customers are using the internet. And that’s exactly what we’ve been able to find with the Secucloud solution.”
High-performance security functions from the cloud
VinaPhone plans to make the security solution available to its customers early next year. The functionality will be based on Secucloud’s Advanced Security Suite, which is being implemented at VinaPhone in collaboration with the Vietnamese partner VKAS. The solution protects mobile internet users from online threats like viruses, Trojans and other malware by detecting and removing them before they reach the user’s smartphone. It automatically routes all internet traffic through Secucloud’s Elastic Cloud Security System (ECS2), where it is checked for damaging content using a combination of powerful security mechanisms. These include anti-phishing, anti-malware, anti-bot, anti-hacking and anti-anonymiser tools. If the solution detects any threats, it blocks the harmful data packets automatically, offering users comprehensive protection while they use the mobile internet.
