Triton Minerals Ltd.: Provisional Environmental Licence Granted for Ancuabe Graphite Project
(firmenpresse) - PROVISIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LICENCE GRANTED FOR ANCUABE GRAPHITE PROJECT
- Ancuabe development accelerates with receipt of Provisional Environmental Licence
- Receipt of Provisional Environmental Licence within six months of application highlights Tritons permitting expertise, positive engagement with stakeholders, and supportive government in Mozambique
- Application process for construction permit is well advanced and environmental licensing is a critical step for approval to commence construction
- Construction expected to commence in the second half of 2018, with first graphite production targeted for the second half of 2019
12 June 2018, Triton Minerals Limited (ASX: TON, Triton or the Company) is pleased to announce that its Mozambique subsidiary Grafex Limitada has received its Provisional Environmental Licence (Licença Ambiental Provisória) from the Ministry of Lands, Environment and Rural Development (MITADER) for the Ancuabe (Upulo) Graphite Project.
Receipt of the Provisional Environmental Licence is a significant and positive step in the development of the Ancuabe Graphite Project:
- The grant of the Provisional Environmental Licence is the precursor for the receipt of the final environmental licence that completes the environmental approvals process.
- As the review period for the Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment(ESHIA) application has passed without any objections, there are no anticipated impediments to receiving final environmental licence.
- Triton can now apply for the construction permit, required for the mine, plant and infrastructure.
- Once the construction permit and final environmental licence are granted, Triton will have in place all the critical permits required to complete full construction of Ancuabe.
- A mining concession for Ancuabe is expected to be issued in the near term. However, it is not required to be granted until mining operations commence (anticipated in the second half of 2019).
Triton Managing Director Peter Canterbury said:
This is a major milestone in the development of the Ancuabe Graphite Project, which paves the way for final construction approvals.
The grant of the Provisional Environmental Licence comes at a timely stage as we progress early works and move toward construction of the raw water dam.
Receiving the Provisional Environmental Licence within six months of submission is testament to the success of our project team and Mozambique management and their tireless commitment to Ancuabe. Through the ESHIA process, Triton has developed strong relationships with local communities, and we will continue to work closely with local stakeholders as Ancuabe progress through to production.
The efficiency of the environmental application process also demonstrates the commitment of the Government of Mozambique to support the development of its natural resources to promote local employment in a sustainable manner.
This is an exciting time for Triton with multiple development activities underway, including early works, finalisation of EPC tenders, and development financing.
I look forward to updating the market in the near term as further development milestones are achieved.
