DP World’s high-tech freight forwarding tool has seen some serious improvements that are set to increase business efficiency using key data.

(firmenpresse) - Logistics lovers rejoice! Your favourite freight forwarding tool has just had an upgrade, making your job easier and far more efficient. We explore the benefits of Where’s My Container’s latest improvements and discover why DP World think it will give their customers an edge over the competition.

Where’s My Container?

DP World’s useful freight forwarding tool, Where’s My Container?, was first released six years ago, to help improve the visibility of cargo as it makes its way through complex supply chains. DP World was the first company to provide detailed information about businesses’ cargo as it was processed in ports, and it delivers users real-time information through a simple visual interface. The aim was to offer businesses useful information that could help them make important operational decisions and, consequently, increase profits.

The UK CEO of DP World said, ‘Traditionally, it’s been difficult to track cargo movements in ports, which affects the ability to adapt plans that really impact the bottom line for business. That’s why we introduced Where’s my container?, so they could make informed business decisions that drive profitability.’

What’s New?

The new upgrade provides users of this freight forwarding tool with even more supply chain visibility if they use DP World’s London Gateway or Southampton Ports. The new features include email or text notifications when containers are ready to book for collection, and estimated discharge times once a vessel holding a user’s containers is in-bound to the port. The programme also keeps a record of a container’s journey for later reference. Finally, real-time decision making is facilitated by push notifications delivered by the programme, allowing firms to respond swiftly to changing business conditions.

•Search – The search function has been improved, meaning that users can access information centrally. They can search for multiple containers in one go and keep all the information they need at their fingertips.

•RecordKeeping – The tool retains a record of all container routes, leading to better auditing and allowing companies to maintain transparency. These detailed historical records will provide firms with the financial clarity they need when analysing the port supply chain.

The Benefits

The more information a company receives, and the more accurate that information is, the more efficiently they can plan for the next stage of a container’s journey. It also means that companies can react quickly and calmly to any unexpected disruptions. The tool allows for an efficient coordination of haulage and the prioritisation of containers for distributions centres.

The CEO hopes the updates will help users challenge the competition, due to increased efficiency. He boasts that some users of the original version have reduced their in-land distribution window by an impressive two days - saving them time and, of course, money.

DP World intends to keep pace with the increasing digitalisation of the industry, providing a freight forwarding tool that is constantly evolving to help its users use key data to improve their bottom line.
