(firmenpresse) - Newbury, 1st August 2018 - Not-for-profit cloud platform, The Good Exchange, has today announced that London-based Voyage Youth has won a free fundraising project on its platform, following a prize draw at the NCVO Annual Conference in April 2018. Voyage - which stands for Voice of Youth and Genuine Empowerment - was set up to address issues concerning racial disproportionality in London boroughs following the Macpherson report recommendations. The organisation's core mission is to reduce the inequalities and disparities faced by young Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) people in employment, education and community settings.

Voyage is using the fundraising project to raise GBP47,700 for its flagship Young Leaders for Safer Cities (YLFSC) BTEC accredited course in leadership. The course was created to help young BME people fulfil their potential; it has a preventative focus, encouraging youngsters to stay in mainstream education, and dissuading them from participating in risky behaviours and activities that could be detrimental to their future. The programme involves 100 13-15-year-old boys and girls from disadvantaged wards across North London. Participants engage in 100 hours of work with Voyage to achieve the qualification, which involves classroom-based learning and interactive sessions. YLFSC concludes with an assessment of the qualities deemed to be important to effective leaders. Key aspects of the course include community safety, an understanding of the rights of young people and strong citizenship.

"At Voyage, we aim to equip young BME people with the skills and experiences they need to thrive both professionally and socially. Our flagship YLFSC programme is incredibly important, as it provides us with an opportunity to make a substantive impact on the lives of young people who are on the peripheries. Additionally, we are keen to develop an effective ecosystem providing support for young people. By forming constructive ties with parents and teachers whilst forming constructive and progressive bonds with young people at formative ages, we can ensure they follow a positive path in life," said Paul Anderson MBE, Chief Executive at Voyage Youth.

"We have ambitious plans for the future and recognise that we need the support of likeminded organisations and individuals in order to achieve our objectives. We’re thrilled to be working with The Good Exchange to reach our fundraising goal, which will help us to change the futures of marginalised BME youngsters in the capital."

With more than GBP7m dispersed to good causes over the last 21 months, The Good Exchange is expanding rapidly across the UK, and is working to build its presence in London.

Ed Gairdner, COO of the Good Exchange added: "We're delighted to welcome Voyage Youth onto our platform. The London-based charity is a most deserving winner of our recent prize draw, helping BME youngsters in London to realise their full potential in life. The project has so far raised GBP37,000; we would encourage fundraisers and grant-makers that support London-based or youth charities to come on board to offer match-funding to ensure this vital campaign achieves its fundraising goal."
