CERO is a novel 3D cell cultivation system
A paradigm shift in the cultivation of spheroids, organoids and tissue specimen in stem cell research

(firmenpresse) - Today, OLS OMNI Life Science GmbH & Co KG, announced the launch of its new CERO system, a benchtop 3D incubator and bioreactor, ideally suited to culture spheroids, organoids and even human tissue specimen.
The CERO bioreactor delivers a benchtop cell culture system with controlled temperature, CO2, pH and agitation of up to four 50 ml culture vessels. Optimized protocols and automatic procedures accelerate cell expansion, differentiation and maturation for optimized cell yield, enabling reduced media consumption and increased work productivity.
What makes CERO unique is the ability to keep cells and aggregates in floatation with virtually no shear force. This feature stems from a combination of tube rotation with proprietary patented tube design, which allows for healthy long-term cultures for up to several months. This provides researchers in drug development and biotechnology valuable access to more mature and fully functional validated cells for their assays.
Prof. M. Heikenwälder, DKFZ Heidelberg, Germany:
“We were able to use CERO in our lab for many different studies, such as long term tissue cultivation or regarding analyses in the context of viral hepatitis. We found that cultivating hepatocyte spheroids in CERO considerably improves expansion, differentiation, maturation and hepatic virus infection compared to monolayer culture. Our research takes advantage of healthy cells even from long-term cultures in CERO. Moreover, we are now able to perform 3D long-term culture of human tissue specimen in CERO - a paradigm shift.”
Amir Keric, Product Manager, OLS OMNI Life Science GmbH & Co KG:
“With the exciting development of organoid systems in the past decade, stem cell research still suffers from poor or complicated, huge and expensive cell cultivation instrumentation. With CERO we provide researchers with an bioreactor that allows easy walk-away touch screen based operation and enabling effective media consumption. CERO’s strengths however, are the breathtaking quality and health of 3D cell cultures such as organoids even after long-term cultivation. Thus, CERO enables researchers for the first time to generate highly physiological relevant cell systems for their research from a benchtop system with a small footprint.”
