Spain introduces environmental zones!
Get informed on www.distintivo-ambiental.es! Since last year, there is an environmental zone in Barcelona preventing many vehicle types from entering the city centre in case of an air pollution peak. In Madrid, the rules have also been tightened on 01.11.2018. Three distinct zones can be activated under different scenarios. In the city centre, vehicles are permanently excluded from traffic. All information is now available on www.distintivo-ambiental.es or in the Green-Zones App.
Environmental zone Madrid(firmenpresse) - Since 01.11.2018, only vehicles with the Spanish environmental badge Distintivo Ambiental are allowed to enter the environmental zone "Madrid Central ZEZ". Within the larger "M30 zone", vehicles without an environmental badge will already be excluded on the second day of higher levels of air pollution. In addition, there will be parking bans for vehicles with the B and C badges. Taxis may then only drive if they have a 0 or ECO badge on their windscreen. If an air pollution peak lasts three days, the driving ban can be extended to the larger environmental zone "Madrid City". Foreigners cannot yet buy an environmental badge for the Spanish environmental zones because the government has not yet introduced a corresponding system. Therefore, it is currently recommended to leave foreign vehicles outside the permanent environmental zone of Madrid Central. On the website or in the free app, find out the limit of this environmental zone and where parking spaces are located. In the event of short-term air pollution and driving bans, these will also be announced in many languages on the website and in the app.
