American Vanadium Highlights
Purple flake is critical as a steel strengthener as well as for higher value
applications in the titanium and chemical industries.
Vanadium electrolyte is used in vanadium flow batteries for utility scale energy
storage.
The vanadium battery has a marvellous advantage over lithium-ion and most other
types of batteries as it can absorb and release huge amounts of electricity at
the drop of a hat and do so over and over, making it ideal for smoothing out the
flow from wind turbines and solar cells.
As everyone knows, most energy created by renewable sources, such as wind and
solar, is intermittent, and therefore must be stored for future use. The
vanadium redox flow battery solves this problem.
It is Vanadium's new use in the renewable energy field that is getting
investors' attention, with Discover Magazine calling vanadium "The element that
could change the world".
Furthermore, there is no limit to the size of a vanadium battery, so it is
scalable for any application. It can easily handle 10s of 1,000s of recharges as
there is no chemical reaction and the battery doesn't degrade or get consumed
over time. And the great news for American Vanadium shareholders is these
batteries utilize vast quantities of vanadium.
Bill Radvak, President & CEO of American Vanadium Corp stated, "We are very
excited as the textbook results of this pilot scale testing are an important
validation of our metallurgical process. This is a major milestone as we have
demonstrated that our process can produce vanadium products with higher value
while also meeting the steadily growing needs of the steel industry. We will be
using the resultant materials to pursue off-takes with steel companies as well
as partnerships and joint ventures with vanadium flow battery technology and
manufacturing companies."
The company is currently developing its 100% owned Gibellini Vanadium Project in
Nevada, which came with an abundance of data, as a result of 160 holes
previously drilled by Union Carbide, Noranda and Atlas.
This project should be of particularly importance for the United States, as the
country's main source of vanadium currently comes from the recycling of scrap
steel, importing the balance, which amounts to more than 95% of the country's
annual requirements.
The potential for American Vanadium to be the sole US primary producer has
helped the stock raise dramatically over the last year, to its current $1.38
price.
Management believes the company has the potential to be the lowest cost primary
producer of vanadium in the world, and could supply 5% of the world's demand for
15 years.
