Heading off on one of our great Menorca villa holidays? Why not explore the island on foot?

(firmenpresse) - If you’re looking for an unforgettable Mediterranean getaway, why not consider one of our favourite Menorca villa holidays? Staying in a villa will provide you with an amazing opportunity for independence and the ability to explore in your own time.

If you'd like to see the island's beauty under the power of your own feet, consider these popular walking and hiking trails.

Cami de Cavalls

This is the island's most famous walking path, and with good reason. The scenery is to die for, encompassing coastal views, forest tracks and lush countryside. Time it right, and you can even spot migrating birds. The Cami de Cavalls actually started off as a patrol route for the Moors, back in the 13th century, as mounted soldiers would circle the route on the lookout for foreign invaders.Being a part of this heritage makes it even more popular with tourists and history buffs.

Cala Galdana

This beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay is an excellent destination in and of itself and makes an excellent launching point to explore Menorca. Villa holidays centred on this area will easily connect you to the Cami de Cavalls and its stunning coastal views. Go west from there, and you’ll find yourself on hikes or walks that take you past virgin beaches on the way to Cala Turqueta. Go east, and you’ll encounter the gorgeous beaches near Cala Mitjana, Escoxeda and Tebaluger.

Cala Pregonda

If you want an easy walk that is smooth enough to even accommodate a sturdy pram if you have young children, take a stroll along the smooth, sandy beaches of Cala Pregonda on the beautiful Golden Coast. The strange, rocky outcrops and gold-red soil of this part of the island coast give it an otherworldly aesthetic – and it is well worth a visit.

Santa Agueda

If you want your nature walk to cross through the hauntingly beautiful ruins of those that have come long before the island’s modern occupants, you’ll want to visit the old Moorish castle of San Agueda, while on Menorca. Villa holidays may see you spending a lot of time on the beaches, but these ruins area favoured hotspot for history-lovers who enjoy ahike.

Algendar Gorge

The Algendar Gorge is wild, filled with thick vegetation and rocky formations and is very difficult to navigate – but it's perfect for the outdoorsy type looking for an engaging walk around the inland regions of Menorca. Villa holidays won't see you staying in the immediate vicinity of Algendar Gorge, but heading to Cala Galdana will point you in the right direction.

It is worth noting that the island has been declared by the UN as a biosphere reserve. Its hugely diverse landscape, along with its notable natural beauty, has been deemed worthy enough for the UN to protect it from rampant commercialisation. Just another reason to love this wonderful, welcoming Balearic island.
