(firmenpresse) - IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/24/11 -- The Maloof Money Cup () -- presented by Vans -- today announced the list of pros who will compete in the first-ever Washington, D.C. contest September 3-4 at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds. Skaters who finish in the top 16, based on combined scores from New York and D.C., will earn a spot on the Maloof All Pros, which was started by Joe Maloof this year to recognize the top skateboarders in the world, and send them to the Maloof Money Cup World Championships in Kimberley, South Africa Sept. 28-Oct 2.

The Maloof Money Cup is held on custom built, cement street courses designed by the pros and incorporating features that replicate real street skating. The D.C. skate park was inspired by Freedom Plaza and the architecture up and down Pennsylvania Avenue. The DC skate park marks the second world-class skate park that the Maloofs have built and left behind for the community. Once again, the contest will utilize the head-to-head jam format that was first introduced at MMC New York. Created by skateboarders, the new format is widely praised for encouraging the hardest tricks in a fast-paced, energized environment that is closest to real street skateboarding.

"In New York it came down to Greg Lutzka and Dennis Busenitz in the final head-to-head matchup," said Joe Maloof, founder of Maloof Money Cup and whose family owns the NBA's Sacramento Kings and the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. "It's going to be interesting to see what happens here in D.C. This is a brand new city with a brand new skate park that none of these guys has mastered, so it will be exciting to see who comes out and stakes their claim for the title."

The 16 top skaters from D.C. and New York will be named Maloof All Pros and will be invited to compete in the first-ever world skateboarding championships in Kimberley, South Africa, Sept. 30 - Oct. 2.

"This will be the greatest field of pro skaters to ever compete in an international contest in the history of skateboarding," said Maloof. "And it's only going to grow from here as we expand to more countries in the near future."

Maloof Skateboarding () produces the Maloof Money Cup. Presented by Vans, the Maloof Money Cup is the world's greatest skateboarding event and the premiere showcase for amateur and professional skateboarding.
