The Region of Sant Lluis: Discovering Menorca

The Region of Sant Lluis: Discovering Menorca

ID: 595804

If you’re looking to experience the island’s traditions and culture, while also having a relaxing holiday by the beach, then Sant Lluis is your ideal holiday location.

(firmenpresse) - Sant Lluis is one of the most popular parts of the island. Located near Mahon, it is home to some of the island’s most beautiful coves, cliffs and beaches. Its spectacular views, however, are not its only selling point. If you are staying in one of our Menorca villas in the area, are many quirky places that are well worth a visit, including cultural landmarks, beautiful vineyard and traditional sporting events.

Windmills and Wine

To explore the cultural gems of the area, we offer various homely Menorca villas in both Punta Prima and Sant Lluis. From here, you can easily access the island’s last working windmill, known as the Molí de Dalt. Located in the centre of Sant Lluis, it has become an important local landmark. For a little native history, you might want to visit the small ethnological museum which is housed inside the windmill. With authentic rural tools and working machinery, it provides a fascinating insight into the area’s agricultural history.

It wouldn’t be a holiday without a little luxury. Treat yourself to an afternoon of indulgence and visit the Bodegas Binifadet vineyards. Founded in 1979, the winery offers a tour that takes you from grape to glass. The visit is then rounded off with a wine tasting, accompanied by cheese and wine jam.
Sport in Sant Lluis
Keep a piece of home with you this summer and spend an afternoon watching a traditional English round of cricket. The Sant Lluis region is home to the Menorca Cricket Club. Situated in the village of Biniparrel, just a leisurely 40-minute walk from the town centre, the Club welcomes visitors every day. Sparked by its British occupation in the eighteenth century, the island has developed a taste for cricket and non-Mediterranean beverages, such as gin.

If you’d rather experience something new, try your luck near the Sant Lluis main church where locals may be competing on one of the ‘petanc pistes’. The game is the island’s own version of the French pétanque and is a splendid – if sedate – spectator sport.

For even more excitement, there are traditional Balearic horse-and-cart races at the Sant Lluis Hipodrom. Held every Saturday evening in the summer and every Sunday morning in the winter, these races are thrilling to watch.

A Rural Retreat

Looking for a holiday in the region? We undoubtedly we have a property that suits your holiday style. With an extensive portfolio of Menorca villas choose from, we offer anything from the traditional converted farmhouses to the more modern seafront holiday homes. If you are looking to relax by the sea, one of our Menorca villas near the idyllic beach of Binisfua is the perfect location. Spend your days gazing at the beautiful blue waters with your toes dipped in silky white sand.

If you would like to be more active this summer, the region also provides excellent cycling and trekking route, as it is criss-crossed with old bridleways through the rustic countryside. Offering hiking trails with stunning views along the way, S’Algar is a walker’s paradise. Follow a rugged gorge to the tiny beach of Cala Rafalet to get the ultimate authentic feel of the island.
