Bombardier Receives Order for 30 Dual-system FLEXITY Swift
Tram-trains for German City of Karlsruhe
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - September 18, 2009) - TheAlbtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft mbH (AVG) and the VerkehrsbetriebeKarlsruhe GmbH (VBK) have ordered 30 dual-system tram-trains fromBombardier. These ultra-modern and comfortable vehicles valued atabout 129 million euros ($190 million US), will be delivered betweenAugust 2011 and September 2013. An option for up to another 45vehicles has also been agreed.The new tram-trains will be manufactured in the Bombardier sitesBautzen, Germany and Vienna, Austria. The BOMBARDIER MITRACpropulsion and control system will be provided by Bombardier Mannheimand BOMBARDIER FLEXX Urban 2500 bogies by Bombardier Siegen, bothsites located in Germany.Grego Peters, President, Light Rail Vehicles, BombardierTransportation said: "This order demonstrates the trust our customerplaces in Bombardier as a reliable and strong partner and in ourtechnically sophisticated FLEXITY trams and light rail vehicles. For an optimum fit to theexisting infrastructure all access areas are 50% low-floor thusensuring a rapid passenger flow and facilitating easy access for themobility-impaired as well as passengers traveling with prams or heavyluggage. The new vehicles consist of three modules, and the interioris walkable throughout its entire length. The 37 meter long lightrail vehicles with a width of 2.65 meters offer a capacity for 244passengers. Conventional bogies with air springs guarantee a smoothride reducing wear and tear of both wheels and tracks to an absoluteminimum.More than 1,500 FLEXITY vehicles from Bombardier are already insuccessful revenue service.
