A Guide to Traditional Drinks in Menorca

A Guide to Traditional Drinks in Menorca

ID: 599552

If you’re staying in one of the amazing Menorca villas, toast your good luck with some of the best local drinks on the island!

(firmenpresse) - We all know that one of the best parts about being on holiday abroad is being able to indulge in a variety of deliciously different food and beverages. Thanks to the gorgeous temperate Mediterranean climate, every drink can be an occasion – from a relaxing sundowner to the simple morning. Whether you fancy yourself a wine connoisseur or are a self-admitted coffee snob, this holiday island is sure to please.

If you’re staying in one of the beautiful Menorca villas, make sure you stock up on a bottle of the local spirits or wine, or a fresh bag of coffee beans to enjoy in the comfort of your home-away-from-home. Here are a few of the best on offer.

Feeling Vine

Nothing says ‘Mediterranean holiday’ mode like a sumptuous glass of Spanish wine in the sun. Whether you like your whites crisp, your reds rich or prefer the delicate notes of a rose, up and coming local vineyards provide a diverse and delicious range. Sa Forana, Malvasia and Ferrer de Muntpalau are just a few of the labels to look out for.

If you like to see where your wine has come from, be sure to take a guided tour through the stunning Binifadet Vineyard, where you’ll be able to learn about the processes and taste some of the best products on offer. They’re all served with terrace tapas of course.

Lift the Spirits with Signature Gin

If wine doesn’t tempt your palate, or perhaps you’re just looking for a perfect cocktail base, the island’s own style of gin might be more up your street. Xoriguer Gin Distillery has been producing the botanical spirit since the eighteenth-century, and it’s still a firm favourite today.

If you’re something of a hardcore gin fan and you want to add to your collection, the distillery is open to the public to ‘try before you buy’ tastings. When you’ve decided on your favourite, head to a bar and order the local tipple, Pomada, which is a wonderfully refreshing mix of gin, crushed ice and bitter lemon. It’s the perfect pre-dinner drink after a hot day in the sun.

Coffee Culture

The coffee culture has always been an integral part of European living. Whether you want to brew up your own in your Menorca villa, or relax in a cafe, while you won’t find any Starbucks or Costas blends here, the island serves its very own roasts that deliver a punchy but smooth flavour. To settle into local life, order one of the local coffee varieties below:

•Cafe Solo — a strong espresso.

•Cafe Cortado — an espresso with a shot of milk, a firm favourite.

•Cafe Bombon — an espresso with condensed milk, for those with a sweet tooth.

•Cafe Carajillo — an espresso with a shot of brandy. A popular breakfast drink amongst the older generation.

Where to Stay

With the island so picturesque and seemingly made for relaxation, there are a number of great choices of accommodation in Menorca. Villas are the best option however, giving visitors privacy and independence, as well as the convenience to cook at home.

So whether you like your morning coffee with a brandy shot or are looking to try out your wine tasting skills, this gorgeous this Spanish island has something for everyone.
