Picturesque Coastal Walks Around Exmoor National Park in Devon

ID: 601304

Adult weekends are made for adventure so lace up your walking boots and get ready to explore the stunning scenery of North Devon’s best trails.

(firmenpresse) - If you and your friends love exploring the great outdoors on your adult weekends away, then a walking break is the perfect thing for you! In the UK, ramblers are spoilt for choice when it comes to trails and networks, but Exmoor National Park in delightful Devon is one of the country’s best destinations for walkers.

Thanks to its coastal location, the landscape is dramatic and breath-taking, and there are hundreds of paths to choose from – even the most experienced of amateur walkers amongst you will be pleased.

Gather your gear and your friends and take a look at the top three trails on offer in this wild haven of natural beauty.

The South West Coast Path

For a mixture of stunning scenery and a bit of a challenge on your adult weekends, the huge 630-mile long South West Coast Path is a good place to start. It’s the longest National Trail in the country, which means you’ll find a fabulous variety of landscapes to explore. The start of the trail in Somerset will wind its way along the coastline and into Cornwall, following into Devon, Dorset and ending in pretty Poole Harbour.

If you like to be amongst the trees, why not take the paths near Lynton and Lynmouth where you’ll head towards Porlock and onto the longest section of wooded coastline in England. For a taste of drama, parts between Heddon Valley and Combe Martin in the west boast the sheer beauty of the Hangman cliffs.

Two Moors Way

To step back in time to the age of picturesque hamlets and ancient walled farmsteads, head to the wild moors. Both Exmoor and Dartmoor have the air of something mystical about them with lush grasslands, sloping hills and cackling streams – it’s like something out of a storybook.

No matter what kind of adult weekends you’re used to as a walker, both long-distance and day-trippers are catered for on this network of trails which spans a total of 102 miles from Ivybridge to Lynmouth on the magnificent North Devon Coast. You’ll also get to witness some local wildlife, notably the iconic moor ponies.

The Coleridge Way

Fancy following in the footsteps of genius? The Coleridge Way, as the name suggests, is the 51-mile long trail that inspired the imagination of the Romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Meandering through the idyllic Somerset countryside, it's easy to see why the writer fell in love with the place. Varying from heathland to moorland, woodland to farmland and valleys to villages, this is a path that offers something for every walker and every ability.

Get Ready to Go

As far as adult weekends go, a short walking break offers a welcome respite from the humdrum of the 9-to-5. I’d recommend organising your next getaway with a company specialising in trips to North Devon to ensure that it’s a perfect break.

What are you waiting for? Lace-up those waking boots and gather your friends, beautiful Devon is waiting to be explored.
