Despite not being an immediate choice for gastronomic holidays, Fuerteventura has lots of fabulous foodie experiences up its sleeve.

Casa Santa Maria
This one is definitely worth making the trip for. Its reputation serves it well and it is recognised as the most charming destination on the island by the Michelin guide. Located in the centre of Betancuria, opposite the stunning ancient church, this seventeenth-century renovated farmhouse now houses a small hotel, a tiny 3D cinema, a restaurant and a museum. Dishes here offer a nod to the traditional, combining local flavours with a creative twist that can only be described as gourmet. The chef’s ‘Braised Kid’ is a specialty here and one that attracts guests from all over Europe.

La MARquesina
Fuerteventura is an island and many visitors will be staying by the sea, so for any discerning seafood lover there is lots to look forward to. When it comes to quality fish eateries, La MARquesina stands out on its own. A short stroll from Corralejo harbour, this place is as authentic a seafood restaurant as you can get. It’s perfect for the romantic couple with notions of watching the sunset over the sea while they dine, and the terrace that overlooks the harbour is a stunning vantage point. The range of delicious specialities here include a wonderful paella and grilled fresh fish of the day.
Another popular choice, it is best to book ahead for this one too.
Sanus Fuerteventura
This is an excellent choice for vegetarians and vegans. Diabetics and coeliacs can also eat well here, assured that their special diets are being taken care of. The focus is on fresh ingredients and most of the menu is gluten-free anyway, including one of the beer choices! Grab a table on the little terrace if you can, but inside the atmosphere is modern, chic and perfectly pleasant too.
The Pumpkin Soufflé with Parmesan and Rosemary Sauce comes highly recommended, as does the Homemade Gnocchi with Rocket and Tomato Pesto.
