Top Family Lunch Spots in Val Thorens
Get ready for your family ski trip by planning the slope-side
restaurants where you might stop off for lunch. Keep the kids fed and
watered, and spirits high!
(firmenpresse) - Taking children on a ski holiday can be a daunting prospect, what with skiing lessons,
battling with ski gloves and salopettes, making sure the little ones don’t get too tired and so
much more. But, as long as the kids are fed and watered, you can generally make it all work.
Right off the bat, your life is made a whole lot easier by staying in a catered chalet. Val
Thorens has a wide variety of options and you won’t need to cook or wash up at breakfast
and dinner time. What a treat!
But even with two daily meals sorted, families need to have some places earmarked for
lunchtime refuelling. Here are some of the best slope-side lunch spots in Val Thorens for you
to grab a bite to eat with the kids.
Le Caribou
On the intermediate blue run Génépi, you’ll find a good quality restaurant with a wonderful
alpine atmosphere. There is a log fire burning inside so you can warm up during your lunch
break, or you can sit outside on the sunny deck and enjoy the view.
The menu has some great child-friendly options, but is perhaps a little pricey. The dish of
fried potatoes and Meguez sausages is a local specialty and often is the plat du jour.
Top Tip: Make sure to dress the kids in plenty of layers so they can take them off if they get
too toasty – that goes for every day you’re on the slopes! Keeping the little ones comfortable
will make a big difference to your trip.
Les Chalets du Thorens
This is a large cafeteria with a terrace and deckchairs, and you can be confident that you’ll
find something here for everyone while getting the iconic ski holiday lunch experience.
They have snacks, pasta, hot dogs and pizzas as well as sweet treats like crêpes and
waffles with Nutella (which come highly recommended). The service is quick and friendly,
but at peak times you may need to wait in the queue a while to get the popular items like
paninis and chips. While you dig in, you can listen to the live music they put on in the
afternoon.
Les Aiguilles de Peclet
At the top of the Peclet lift is a restaurant that’s perfect for a quick lunch. Prices are very
affordable as the menu is relatively basic, but when travelling with kids that’s no bad thing.
Service is super speedy here, so you can make a short pit stop and get back to the
adventure. Or, if the kids are too tired and need a longer break, you can always go back
down the lift and head to the village or your catered chalet. Val Thorens certainly has plenty
of snow activities for families to enjoy.
La Ferme de Rosalie
For a cosy lunchtime experience, stop by the charming restaurant at the bottom of the
Folyeres piste. They serve traditional dishes with lots of family-friendly options, and if you’ve
already had your fill of tartiflette and raclette you’ll be glad to hear that the menu is varied.
Salads, pizzas, meat platters and other alpine dishes are just some of the options to choose
from.
These were just some of the slope-side restaurants where you can stop off with the kids
during your holiday – there are plenty more to discover while you ski.
When booking your trip, the best idea is to use a reputable ski company to get the best
advice on choosing a great catered chalet. Val Thorens has a long list of options and some
are better suited to families than others.
