Ruukki chosen for extensive bridge project delivery in Norway
(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Press release 25 September 2009Ruukki has signed a contract for an extensive delivery entity for atransport infrastructure project in Fredrikstad, Southern Norway.Ruukki's delivery includes steel structures, including installation,for Krakeroy bascule bridge and steel piles for the bridgefoundations. The order is worth a total of around EUR 5 million. Thestructures for the 100-metre long bridge will be delivered to SkanskaNorge AS and the piles to Nordenfjeldske Spunt og Peleservice AS."We chose Ruukki as our partner in the project because of its longexperience and know-how in technically demanding bridge projects.Ruukki's high degree of prefabrication of the structures alsosignificantly shortens on-site construction time," says ProjectManager Geir Ståland from Skanska."The large prefabricated structures will be shipped directly to theconstruction site. Installation of the bridge will be carried out bylifting the large structures directly into place. By transferring thework phases from the construction site to the workshop, we can reduceinstallation time and minimise the risks at the site," says SamiEronen, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure and Northern Europe,Ruukki Construction.When completed, the bridge will be 26 metres wide and the basculespan 36 metres long.The bridge structures will be manufactured at Ruukki's Sandnessjøenworks in Norway and the steel piles at the Oulainen works in Finland.Delivery of the piles for the bridge foundations is already underway. Manufacture of the structures will begin in late 2009 andinstallation work will be completed in spring 2010.
