SGS Provides Statutory Inspections for STIB in Belgium
In July 2011, SGS was awarded a three-year contract to provide comprehensive Statutory Inspections by the Societe des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB), the Brussels-based Transport Company for Metro and Bus.
SGS Wins Major Contract with Societe des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB)(firmenpresse) - SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company, won a major contract in July 2011 with the Societe des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (STIB), the Brussels-based Transport Company for Metro and Bus. During the entire contract, scheduled for three years, SGS will provide comprehensive Statutory Inspections of a wide variety of equipment and installations for the company.
STIB is the largest urban public transport company in Belgium, encompassing all 19 communes of the Brussels-Capital Region and serving 11 outlying communes. In order to assess the integrity, sustainability, and regulatory compliance with the defined standards and norms of all the equipment and installations, STIB looked for a reliable third-party inspection company.
Due to its first-rate competence and expertise in similar projects, SGS Industrial Services was awarded the contract to perform comprehensive Statutory Inspections of the STIB vast network of 4 metro lines, 18 tram lines, 50 bus lines, and 11 night bus lines.
Throughout the entire contract, SGS’s team of highly-experienced experts will ensure that the equipment and installations, including 600 escalators, 100 lifts, and all the electrical installations and lifting gear, meet all the quality and performance requirements. With Statutory Inspections, SGS will guarantee the safety and reliability of the customer’s assets, resulting in the sustainability of the business operations.
The main objectives of SGS Statutory Inspections are the assessment of the integrity of potentially dangerous equipment, such as lifts, escalators, and electrical installations, the health and safety of people, and the environmental sustainability and compliance with national and international regulations, supported by a flexible web-based reporting system.
With SGS’s help, the equipment and installations will be inspected for any discontinuities and failures to ensure the flawless and safe functioning of the STIB vast bus and metro network.
