Swinton Commercial Gives Steel Toe Caps the Boot
(firmenpresse) - MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 09/07/11 -- Swinton Commercial is today warning van drivers of the road safety dangers brought on by wearing steel toe capped boots when driving.
The heavy and often cumbersome boots popular with builders and workmen alike have been named as one of the most dangerous types of footwear to wear behind the wheel.
A poll of 1,200 customers, by the provider found that 15% feel that steel toe capped boots are more dangerous to drive in than flip flops.
Customers demonstrated concern for the boots getting stuck between van pedals and drivers unknowingly pressing the brake and accelerator simultaneously due to the large size of the boots.
A shocking 10% of steel toe capped wearers surveyed said reaction times and movement of feet were restricted whilst wearing such footwear.
Phil Moss, Commercial Vehicle Manager at Swinton Commercial said "Van drivers who wear protective bulky footwear should be aware of these dangers. Before getting behind the wheel they should think about changing footwear that is more suitable for driving. Customer feedback concerning this matter just goes to show that although steel toe capped boots are there to be protective, they can also lead to accidents, which can impact on future premiums."
