United Soybean Board Provides Renewable, Soy-Based Building Products That Give Fresh Approach to Habitat for Humanity Build
(firmenpresse) - ST. LOUIS, MO -- (Marketwire) -- 09/07/11 -- For the past two decades, U.S. soybean farmers have helped fund the development of many successful new uses for U.S. soybeans. These products, which include such things as soy-based inks, solvents and plastics, provide Americans an alternative to toxic and often petroleum-based counterparts. Now, the looks to showcase some of those products through a program that provides products to groups across the United States.
Just recently, the Greater Indianapolis Habitat for Humanity chapter used soy-based paint and insulation, as well as carpet with a soy-based backing in a new home. The chapter built the house during the Indiana State Fair and reached hundreds of thousands fairgoers.
Soy-based products, like paint and insulation, offer consumers a greener, safer alternative to many products traditionally used in industrial applications that contain ingredients such as petroleum and formaldehyde. In fact, the soy-based carpet backing replaces 80 percent of petroleum with the green, soy alternative.
is made up of 69 farmer-directors who oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff, a U.S. farmer-funded soy research and promotion program, on behalf of all U.S. soybean farmers. Checkoff funds are invested in the areas of animal utilization, human utilization, industrial utilization, industry relations, market access and supply. As stipulated in the Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service has oversight responsibilities for USB and the soybean checkoff.
