Wireless Internet is currently available in many places. Wherever there's an available source of power, higher speed Internet access can be obtained. In some metropolitan areas wireless net is being offered at discounted prices, as consumers become more concerned about saving energy. Many wireless broadband providers offer deals that have free installation and equipment to satisfy with the convenience of normal life.

Wireless internet enables wireless connectivity from a pc to the World Wide Web through radio signals instead of cables on the user s home computer, notebook computer, smart phone, or other wireless device. The signals used for wireless internet connections are known as WAN (Internet Traffic Exchange), EoE (Estate of Equipment Exchange), or even Wi-Fi (Internet Wi-Fi). These signals operate on the principle that a WAN will be able to transmit much faster data speeds than a LAN (Local Area Network).

Most wireless routers utilize the Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security standard to protect the network. To gain access to the net a user needs to connect to a WAN router or gateway using a computer or one with an open wireless network card (a), a USB cord, and a password and username set by the user. There are different types of wireless routers, some of which provide more security features like WPA security and have faster upload speeds. Some even offer two-factor authentication, another security feature which helps prevent unauthorized access to computers.

Many homes, businesses, and libraries already have wireless internet available. Wireless internet service providers (ISP's) provide cable connections for the convenience of users that need quick wired links. Most cable modems are equipped with broadband (fast broadband) as well as phone lines. For those homes or businesses which don't have internet service during the main house (cable) and are connected to a cell phone company's network, a wireless modem can be installed between the computer and the telephone lines.

Cellphones offer wireless access to the web, which functions exactly like a notebook does with wireless internet access. It may be used on any smartphone, like the Blackberry. Users may log on to the web using their smartphones with a browser and can navigate the web pages exactly like they would on a computer. Many cellphones that include the operating system Windows can also be used to access the Verizon FiOS TV service (in addition to other stations ).

Other devices like computers, digital camera, video game consoles, and portable media players also have built-in wifi signals. These devices, however, cannot be utilized to get Verizon FiOS TV as it employs the EDGE (Gigabits per second) technology. This technology offers fast online access and gives television programming in HD. Other fixed wireless internet services are available via AT&T U-verse, CableVision, Comcast, Charter, and Telex.

Some newer homes might have built-in DVR or other entertainment devices that require a router to offer service. If you have built-in DVRs, then you'll need a wireless router to enable DVR to stream audio. Digital cameras use the exact same type of router as numerous other electronic devices that use the wifi signal.

A last option for Verizon FiOS is through point-to-point or unicast wireless connections. Point-to-point connections have been used for decades in conjunction with conventional wired net but are beginning to make a comeback in rural areas. Unicast wireless connections use a series of linked points so as to provide reliable and fast online services. These systems operate well in both small and large towns, as they utilize a single radio signal for all computers within the system. Verizon FiOS may be utilised in those systems using a special adapter. Many rural clients prefer this alternative as it's cheaper and since they do not have the extra expense of hiring another technician or having their houses hooked up to multiple distinct connections.
