CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It's the second most frequent of all the active ingredients in cannabis (too, marijuana). It doesn't cause an"icky", although a few medical research indicates it may have this effect. According to a recent report from the World Health Organization, CBD displays no effects suggestive of any dependence or abuse possible. So, what would be the advantages of CBD and what are the probable drawbacks?

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. It's the 2nd most frequent of all the active ingredients in cannabis (also, marijuana). By itself it doesn't trigger an"icky", although a few medical research indicates it might have this effect. According to a recent report by the World Health Organization, CBD displays no effects suggestive of any addiction or abuse potential. Thus, what would be the benefits of CBD and what are the probable negatives?

Some of those healthcare researchers and hemp growers who are researching the medicinal benefits of CBD are not completely convinced that it'll have several beneficial side effects when taken as an individual supplement. But, among the more important benefits seems to be its potential for use in treating medical disorders such as depression, chronic pain, nausea, epilepsy and stress. There's even some preliminary evidence of potential effectiveness for different conditions, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn's Disease, and Asthma. So, is CBD right for you? How should you determine if CBD might assist you?

First, we must discuss the two types of CBD found in cannabis. The psychoactive substance is called CBD and the non-psychopathic form is called THCA. Cannabidiol can be found in greatest concentrations in cannabis, in the leaves and stems, but can also be found in certain varieties of hemp like muffins, oil, soap and paper. To acquire the pure CBD, you want to either develop your own cannabis plants, or buy CBD using a prescription from a physician. The good thing is that both kinds of CBD are very similar in construction and in some ways act in concert to protect and preserve brain cells.

In a recent study from Marijuana Health Research, Dr. Donald Tashkin, a professor at the University of California-Davis, and his team found that the cannabidiol at cannabis sativa, when taken by adult rats, protected their nerve cells from being destroyed by chemicals used in chemotherapy. What they didn't understand at the time was that the cannabidiol, which acts as an antioxidant, obstructed the chemicalcyclic activity of a certain enzyme in the mind. When this particular enzyme is"cyclically busy," it causes a chain reaction which destroys brain cells. This discovery points to the possible benefits of CBD for treating neurological conditions like stroke, multiple sclerosis, and stress.

However, the CBD doesn't stop at reducing pain and neurological ailments. Recent studies have proven that CBD can excite the endocannabinoid system in the brain, through the regulation of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. In addition to helping alleviate pain and alleviate neurological ailments, CBD might help to prevent degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, dementia and Parkinson's. There have been many scientific research performed on CBD and its health benefits, but one mystery that still remains is how it works in the body also. The reason is that until recentlyit was difficult to test CBD in clinical trials, since it has not yet been approved by the FDA as a prescription medication.

A new study out of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center sheds more light on CBD's capacity to treat nausea and chronic pain. From the study, mice were injected with saline solutions that contain pentoxifylline, a compound that acts as an opiate on the nervous system. After two weeks, the mice showed no signs of distress from the treated site. The findings imply that CBD may be able to reverse the neuropathic pain that accompanies various ailments like diabetes or chronic pain. The findings are reassuring for patients that are desperate to find a means to ease physical and psychological pain caused by such ailments.

Another area where CBD finds itself playing a function is in reducing seizures related to parasitic diseases such as epilepsy. Though CBD isn't considered a complete cure for epilepsy, it has shown promise in reducing the frequency of seizures. One reason CBD works wonders for epileptic patients is that cannabidiol, the main compound in CBD, acts as a pure form of anti-seizure. In addition to reducing epileptic seizures, cannabidiol also prevents voltage spikes which can lead to further seizure issues. In the recent years, some CBD resources have produced strains which are resistant to cannabidiol's ability to control voltage spikes. Such strains are believed to have higher therapeutic values than their non-resistance counterparts.

CBD is only one of the many promising compounds in which cannabidiol has exhibited significant health benefits in people. Another chemical, called Sativex, also derived from cannabis, also boasts of many health issues related to the nervous system and the entire body. Although the two Sativex and CBD are thought to work miracles, they also have various modes of activity and therefore have different side effects. Hence, before taking any kind of CBD supplementation, it's a good idea to speak with a qualified practitioner or even better, consult with an expert medical practitioner for appropriate advice and consultation.
