Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer , M.D., FACEP, was elected to EDPMA's 19-member Board of Directors, and Center for Performance Excellence Manager , R.N., MBA, CEN, CPHQ, was named Chair for the Quality Initiatives Task Force (QITF). Hitchcock and Schumaker will serve EDPMA members for the 2011-2012 year.

"T-System has been a valuable member of EDPMA for nearly 12 years. We're thrilled and honored to welcome to our leadership team the addition of two exceptional professionals, both of whom are well respected in the industry for their extensive ED and clinical experience and proven career track record," said Linda Ayers, MHCM, CAE, executive director of EDPMA.

EDPMA is the national trade association representing emergency department (ED) physician groups, ED billing companies and supporting organizations. It advocates for ED physician groups and their practice partners to enhance quality patient care through operational excellence and financial stability. EDPMA's advocacy focus is beneficial policies for emergency physician groups while ensuring the delivery of high-quality care for America's ED patients. It also strives to educate members about emerging legislative and regulatory issues, including close monitoring of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, trends in reimbursement models and changes related to provider enrollment in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

As T-System's CMIO, Hitchcock leads the company's strategy for key issues such as Meaningful Use, ICD-10, ACOs and patient care quality. He spent the last seven of his 20-year medical career honing his EHR domain expertise holding various informatics positions. Hitchcock's appointment to the elected EDPMA board will involve overseeing governance of the association's activities and contributing leadership and guidance on critical ED policy issues affecting members.

Schumaker is an ED nurse with 20 years' healthcare experience holding numerous clinical and leadership roles. As Chair for the QITF, she joins other EDPMA expert members taking the lead on quality-associated matters. The QITF identifies and advocates for appropriate quality improvement measures in the ED, and it educates members on how a measure will be documented in the ED and then extracted and reported by billing and coding personnel.

"Dr. Hitchcock brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and wisdom as an active leader in ED technology," said Ayers. "Janie's expertise and passion for healthcare quality improvement has already played an integral role fostering the goals of EDPMA through the QITF."

Continued Ayers, "We also want to recognize T-System as a long-standing gold and now silver partner sponsoring our annual conference and organization the past several years. T-System has made tremendous strides in its 15-year history to help physicians and nurses improve the delivery and efficiency of patient care, and we are proud to have them as a member of EDPMA."

Formed in 1997, EDPMA members include small emergency physician groups that work with one or two local hospitals, medium-sized emergency physician groups that are focused in a region, and national emergency physician groups working with hospitals across many states. Additionally, EDPMA members include partners to these emergency physician groups that provide technical and professional support services, such as billing and coding services, documentation tools, consultants and insurers.
