Network Performance Issues Resolved Within Minutes Instead of Days; Global Visibility for 40 Offices Across Canada Increases Productivity and Cuts IT Management Costs

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/13/11 -- (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today announced that the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division, has deployed Riverbed® ® application-aware network performance management (NPM) solutions for real-time network and application performance analytics with top-down visibility -- from high-level business views down to packet-based transaction analysis. With Riverbed Cascade, the Canadian Cancer Society now has end-to-end monitoring with deep packet capture and packet analysis for proactive alerting and robust network troubleshooting. When network problems arise they are now solved in minutes versus days -- resulting in increased employee productivity and reduced IT management costs.

The Canadian Cancer Society is a national organization dedicated to fighting cancer. The Society has two national offices (in Toronto and Ottawa), 10 provincial and territorial divisions, and more than 600 community locations. The Society consists of 170,000 volunteers and a full-time staff of 1,200 people. With 40 offices located throughout the provinces, gaining visibility into end-to-end (PC-to-application server) network and application performance was challenging.

"We could look at the performance of a router, but we couldn't see the traffic between an individual PC and an application server," said Gerald Holmes, IT director at the Canadian Cancer Society. "People would complain about access to a particular application, saying response was slow, and we wouldn't know whether we were having problems with network capacity, the router or the application server."

The Canadian Cancer Society didn't have to search far for a solution. As part of its IT consolidation and private cloud initiative four years ago, the Society had already experienced the benefits of Riverbed . With Riverbed , the Society was able to dramatically increase application performance, while also avoiding costly bandwidth upgrades and optimizing its disaster recovery processes. So when it came to optimizing network visibility, Riverbed was the clear choice.

After deploying the Cascade network performance management solution, the Society gained a deeper, more robust view of its network and application performance -- allowing it to monitor and quickly troubleshoot even the most difficult problems. Cascade accelerates the troubleshooting process by presenting a business-level, network-wide view of the status of critical applications, with easy drill-down into detailed performance metrics and packet-based transaction analysis. Since every Riverbed Steelhead appliance can collect performance data and send it to Cascade, the Canadian Cancer Society didn't have to deploy additional network monitoring appliances at their remote locations, giving them substantial savings.

"Because we're running 40 offices across the provinces, there are always going to be issues. But now with Cascade, we can quickly diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve even complicated network problems," said Holmes. "Network issues that previously took days to troubleshoot now only take minutes, so issues are resolved before end-users are affected. Cascade allows us to deliver essential IT services to keep our organization running productively -- all without increasing our staff."
