U.S.English Testifies in Pennsylvania State House of Representatives

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/14/11 -- U.S.English Director of Government Relations Tim Schultz testified today in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, urging passage of two bills that would make English the official language of the Pennsylvania government.
House Bill 361, the Pennsylvania Official Language Act, was introduced by RoseMarie Swanger. If passed, it will recognize English as the official language of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and designate it as the language of all official acts of government. The Official Language Act (House Bill 888), introduced by Scott Perry, will recognize English as the official language of the Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
"Thirty states have already passed legislation declaring English to be their official language," said Mauro E. Mujica, Chairman of the Board and CEO of U.S.English. "Similar legislation on the federal level currently boasts more than 100 cosponsors. The time to make English the official language of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is now, and I urge the Pennsylvania State Legislature to support these common sense bills."
U.S.English has been instrumental in helping thirty states enact official English legislation. It continues to advocate for official English on a federal level as well, working to gather support for Rep. Steve King (R-IA)'s English Language Unity Act, H.R. 997, which currently awaits further action by the United States House of Representatives.
