(firmenpresse) - LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/14/11 -- The Internet has made it convenient to pitch the media directly; however, most people need help learning how to approach the media effectively. Lisa Elia, CEO and founder of the Los Angeles-based firm, Lisa Elia Public Relations, is holding her second Meet the Media Day, where she will gather 300 entrepreneurs, 12 members of the media and special guest speakers for an information-packed day. It takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, at the Fairmont Miramar, located at 101 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, Calif.

At this event, attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear directly from TV and radio producers and magazine, newspaper and web writers and editors, what they like, dislike and seek when being pitched. Elia, who has spent more than 20 years as a publicist, has secured placements for clients with The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, USA Today, Time, Redbook, and hundreds of other outlets, will share her step-by-step plan for getting media attention and the newest PR strategies. She will bring volunteers on stage and conduct impromptu media training and coaching sessions and answer questions from the stage. Special guests will cover what's new in social media, mindset and other vital information entrepreneurs need to succeed. Each attendee will receive a booklet containing specific PR tips, questionnaires and information prepared by Elia and her team.

"With more people doing their own publicity outreach than ever before, the need for understanding the media and how to pitch them properly is greater than ever. I'll be providing a lot of information on pitching, how to be great in an interview, and other tips that will help people get into action quickly." Elia, provides a few tips here, on mistakes to avoid when pitching the media:

1. "Me, me, me. Your press materials are too 'me-centric.' Try to incorporate current events, trends and statistics and your press kit becomes something of much greater value to the media.
2. All sales, no substance. Your press release shouldn't read like an ad. It should contain correct grammar and punctuation, and be written in journalistic style. Your best bet is to study the AP Stylebook.
3. Calling to 'check in' or make sure the journalist/producer received your press release. Members of the media are under tremendous deadlines, so think twice before calling. They'll call you if they're interested. If you feel you must call, offer new and exciting information."

If you want greater visibility and a free ticket to Meet the Media Day, you can become a table host and fill your table of 10 to receive your free ticket, free valet parking, a sign at your table bearing your logo and name, and the opportunity to have your gift certificate or product included in the gift bags for the media panel and one raffle winner.
