Annual City-Wide Food Drive Supports the Calgary Food Bank
The Largest Annual Volunteer Event in Calgary and one of the Largest Food Drives in the World
(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/15/11 -- The is one of the largest and most successful food drives in the world, breaking a Guinness World Record in 2008(1) when over 7,000 volunteers collected 230,945kg (509,147lbs) of food. Over the past six years, the has collected over 2.2 million pounds of canned and dry goods for donation to the .
In the days leading up to the (set for September 24th), more than 350,000 Calgary homes will be canvassed, inviting Calgarians to place food donations on their front porch for pick-up by one of the thousands of volunteers who will be on duty between 10:00 A.M. and 12:00 noon on September 24th.
Feedback from last year tells us that many Calgarians didn't know we were coming! Help us get the word out in advance this year...

The comes at a crucial time for the Food Bank, falling at the end of a traditionally slow donation period, and heading into the Food Bank's highest period of demand.
This annual has been so successful that organizers in Edmonton, Pincher Creek, and the province of British Columbia plan to launch their own city-wide (or province-wide!) campaigns, with the support of the Calgary coordinators. The is organized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but volunteers and donations come from all Calgarians.
