Warnex Obtains Funding From Federal Government for Forensic Mitochondrial DNA Testing
(firmenpresse) - LAVAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/22/11 -- Warnex Inc. (TSX: WNX) announced today that its subsidiary, Warnex PRO-DNA Services, located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, has signed a Contribution Agreement with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) to develop a pre-screening method for forensic mitochondrial DNA testing.
"We are pleased to obtain this funding from NRC-IRAP, which will allow us to expand our service offering in forensic DNA testing," said Mark Busgang, President and CEO of Warnex. "This method will provide a fast, accurate and inexpensive way to screen crime scene samples such as fingerprint lifts and touch DNA samples for mitochondrial DNA analysis."
In addition to technical and business advisory services, NRC-IRAP will contribute up to $49,200 for the research and development work performed by Warnex.
Warnex PRO-DNA Services is the only private laboratory in Canada providing STR, Y-STR, miniSTR, PRO-DNA® Lead and mitochondrial DNA testing services for forensic testing purposes. Mitochondrial DNA testing is crucial in cases where nuclear DNA testing is not possible such as for shed hairs at crime scenes, identification of missing persons (skeletal remains with degraded DNA), and when there is insufficient nuclear DNA.
