Two-Day Symposium Examining Effects of War and Conflict by Artists, Authors and Historians at Montserrat College of Art, Sept 30-Oct 1, 2011
(firmenpresse) - BEVERLY, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/22/11 -- Montserrat College of Art Gallery in conjunction with acclaimed exhibit "For The Record: Searching For Objectivity In Global Conflict, " is hosting a two-day symposium Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Free and open to public; registration requested.
The symposium features discussions by veterans, artists, writers, screening of Sebastian Junger's film, "Restrepo," plus a keynote address by noted American art critic and Dean of the Yale School of Art Robert Storr.
Friday, Sept. 30, 7:30pm -- Dane Street Church, 10 Dane Street, Beverly. KEYNOTE SPEECH by Robert Storr, Topic: Gerhard Richter's "September."
Saturday, Oct. 1: 9 am-5pm -- Presenters include: North Shore Community College President Wayne Burton, photographer Nina Berman, Carnegie Mellon Professor Susanne Slavick and others. 2:30 PM FILM SCREENING "Restrepo" by Sebastian Junger Winner of a 2010 Sundance Film Festival Prize.
Curated by Montserrat faculty members Rob Roy and Gordon Arnold, along with Gallery Director Leonie Bradbury, the exhibit came from a 30-year conversation between the two faculty on the topic of conflict, how it is interpreted, and leaving the viewer to draw their own conclusions.
Montserrat is a small, private, residential college of visual art and design, founded by artists, for artists, educating the creative problem solvers of tomorrow. The college offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and external programming.
