RIE: Agreement to acquire Gellwe in Poland terminated

(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Rieber Foods Polska S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rieber & SønASA, and Foodcare SP.ZO.O have decided to terminate the agreementpertaining to Rieber & Søn's acquisition of the Polish Gellwe brand.The conclusion from the Polish anti-monopoly authority prohibitingthe take-over of Gellwe as stipulated in the agreement between thetwo companies is the reason for this.In the authority's opinion Rieber Foods Polska's market position incertain product categories after a consummated transaction would betoo dominant. Rieber Foods Polska has opted not to appeal thedecision and has agreed with Foodcare to terminate the sale andpurchase agreement entered into in December 2008.Rieber & Søn has some time ago initiated several programs in Polandfocused on production efficiency and purchasing savings. Theseefforts will increase.
